This half term, Year 3 will be reading:

What Lila wants to be more than anything else in the world is . . . a Firework-Maker!

But firework-making is not just about being able to make Crackle-Dragons and Golden Sneezes. There is also one special secret: every Firework-Maker must make a perilous journey to face the terrifying Fire-Fiend!

Our English work will be based around Lila’s journey, encompassing a range of genres in our writing.

Spelling

Spelling is initially taught as discrete lessons, where pupils learn rules and carry out activities that allow them to investigate these rules. Pupils are not given spelling lists to learn and will be tested each week based on the application of rules taught.

Maths

Our maths lessons follow the Maths No Problem scheme. This is an approach taught across the whole school. This half term, pupils will be learning strategies to support mental calculation of multiplication and division as well as applying this to solve word problems.

Topic

This half term our topic work will be based on volcanoes. They will look at the key aspects of their physical geography as well as identify key volcanoes, their locations and how they are formed.

Science

Science is taught as through Science Weeks. This half term, Year 3 will be learning more about rocks. Pupils will identify features of rocks and use these to group different types of rocks. They also understand how fossils are made.
