UKS2 will start the Autumn term learning all about World War 2. This a brilliant History topic and we are certain the children will find it really engaging. Our DT will also link to this as we learn how during in the war everyone had to make do and mend.
We will be having a big focus on reading this year and each class will have individual copies of their class book to read. Octopus will begin by reading Holes by Louis Sachar ( always a big hit with the children) which will teach them about friendship and injustice. Starfish will read Wonder by R.J Palacio which will teach them about accepting differences and showing kindness and empathy. Jellyfish will read Beowulf adapted by Michael Morpurgo, an adventure where courage overcomes the forces of evil.
Jellyfish will commence their swimming lessons this term ( Y5 children in Starfish will swim the second half of the year) and Y6 will have the opportunity to take part in cycle training with Bikeability.
In Maths we will be working with numbers in the millions and developing our understanding of methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
