We are using the book Kensuke’s Kingdom as our text for English this half term.
Michael and his family set off to sail around the world in their yacht – Peggy Sue. One night, during a storm, he falls overboard. Washed up on an island in the Pacific, Michael struggles to survive on his own.
Our Geography topic is The Amazing Americas. We will look at the countries of South America but focus mainly on Brazil as that is one of the countries Michael and his family visit. As well as learning about some of the physical and human features, we will study the impact of deforestation.
We are going to use water colours in Art to try to recreate the scene showing the Peggy Sue riding the waves of the Pacific Ocean.
Maths
We are putting our fractions knowledge to the test before we move on to looking at decimals and percentages. Please continue to practise times tables at home as having instant recall of them is a much needed skill. We are also spending some time every afternoon improving our mental maths skills so that we can apply them in our daily maths lessons.
We will be working on our problem solving skills using bar models. Each day we will have a new challenge to solve. Look for our solutions on our Twitter feed or follow @WhiteRoseMaths and have a go yourself!
