This half term, we will be starting a new class text. ‘Secrets of a Sun King’ by Emma Carroll. A discovery from ancient Egypt… A cursed package… The untold story of a young pharaoh…When Lilian Kaye finds a parcel on her grandad’s doorstep, she is shocked to see who sent it: a famous Egyptologist, found dead that very morning, according to every newspaper in England! The mysterious package holds the key to a story . . . about a king whose tomb archaeologists are desperately hunting for. Lil and her friends must embark on an incredible journey – to return the package to its resting place, to protect those they love, and to break the deadly pharaoh’s curse . . . 

English 

This term, our English will mainly be linked to our History topic of Ancient Egyptians. The children will get the opportunity to retell a traditional narrative and write a different viewpoint diary entries. In addition to this, during Science week, they will plan and write a scientific report about how to get fresh water from sea water.  

Maths 

Most of our Math’s work this term will be centred around geometry. We will start the half term by looking into properties of shapes, including finding, measuring and drawing angles. We will then move onto position and movement and units of measurement. 

Science 

Our Science this term will be Properties and Changes of Materials. During this topic, the children will learn about different types of materials including solids, liquids and gases. Throughout experiments, we will explore changes of state including melting, freezing and dissolving. We will discuss and evaluate how materials can change and whether these changes are reversible or irreversible. The children will have the opportunity to represent their data in tables and graphs to help them see the results in various ways and notice any patterns or trends.  

History 

In History, we are going to be exploring Ancient Egypt. During this topic, we will be learning about things such as: Egyptian civilisation, the pyramids of Giza and who were the Ancient Egyptians. Alongside this, we will be learning about Howard Carter to find out why he was a significant person during that historic time period. This is a topic we know the children are excited about learning!  

PE 

The children will continue to go swimming on a Tuesday with their class teachers and alongside this, they will be participating in athletics in preparation for Sports Day.  

Music 

The music theme for this half term is ‘At The Movies’. The children will explore a variety of moods, styles and genres to inspire their singing, composing and performing skills. 

Art 

Linking with our History topic, ‘Ancient Egypt’, we will be exploring how Art was portrayed during this era. The children will get the opportunity to design and print pieces of art to replicate pieces they have studied. We will explore hieroglyphics in detail and work on re-creating this style of lettering.  

Computing 

During this term, we will be exploring the effectiveness of using spreadsheets. This will include using programmes to evaluate, create and format spreadsheets for various purposes. In addition to this, children will be applying their Maths knowledge throughout the lessons to create accurate formulae.
